Washington, D.C. -- March 5, 2009 -- Gallup proudly announces that 23 distinguished organizations will receive the 2009 Gallup Great Workplace Award. Based on the most rigorous workplace research ever conducted, the award honors organizations whose employee engagement results demonstrate they have the most productive and engaged workforces in the world.
This year's winning organizations are global in representation, and eight elite organizations have the distinction of being three-time award winners. Six are two-time award winners, and nine are first-time award winners. The recipients represent all facets of business from healthcare to hospitality, retail to manufacturing, and banks to insurance.
The 2009 Gallup Great Workplace Award recipients are:
"In good times, employee engagement is the difference between being good and being great, and in bad times, it's the difference between surviving and not. In good times and bad, low engagement reduces performance and profit. And under the current circumstances, many companies can't afford to let those drop," says James K. Harter, Ph.D., Gallup's chief scientist of workplace management and well-being and coauthor of 12: The Elements of Great Managing. "Gallup is honored to recognize these organizations that continue to excel in engaging their workforce, even during our current global economic challenge."
The Gallup Great Workplace Award is based on multiple criteria, including response rates, overall engagement levels, and evidence of engagement impact on performance. Applicants' results are compared across Gallup's renowned workplace research database composed of millions of work teams in more than 150 countries. A panel of workplace experts reviews each organization's portfolio, which includes quantitative and qualitative components.
The awards will be presented at the Gallup Summit 2009, which will take place April 28-30, 2009, in Omaha, Nebraska. During the Summit, Great Workplace Award winners will present the best practices they applied to their workplaces and discuss the improved business results they achieved through building an engaged workforce.
