Washington, D.C. -- April 5, 2012 -- Gallup announces 27 distinguished organizations are recipients of the 2012 Gallup Great Workplace Award. Based on the most rigorous workplace research ever conducted, the award honors organizations whose employee engagement results demonstrate they have the most productive and engaged workforces in the world. Winners are formally presented their awards during the 2012 Gallup Summit, May 15-17.
Gallup Great Workplace Award winners span the globe and represent all facets of business from healthcare to hospitality, retail to manufacturing, and banks to insurance. Three elite organizations have performed at a sustained level of excellence in each year of the award's existence, earning them the award for a sixth time. Two companies are five-time award winners, three have won four times, three are three-time winners, and five are two-time winners. Eleven organizations are first-time recipients.
The 2012 Gallup Great Workplace Award recipients are:
"Worldwide, there are more than two actively disengaged employees for every engaged employee. The organizations we are honoring are ones that have worked hard to shatter and reverse what is typical and they average nine engaged employees for every actively disengaged employee," notes James K. Harter, Ph.D., Gallup's Chief Scientist of workplace management and wellbeing and coauthor of Wellbeing: The Five Essential Elements. "Engaged employees are more productive, safer, more customer-centric, and more profitable. They are also 3.5 times more likely to be thriving in their overall lives, experience better days, and have fewer unhealthy days. In short, these winners are improving lives as they improve the overall performance of their companies."
The Gallup Great Workplace Award is based on multiple criteria, including overall engagement levels and evidence of engagement impact on key business metrics. Gallup compares applicants' results across its renowned workplace research database composed of millions of work teams in more than 170 countries. A panel of workplace experts reviews each organization's impact portfolio, which includes quantitative and qualitative components.
Gallup will present the awards to the winning organizations at the 2012 Gallup Summit, which will take place May 15-17, 2012, in Omaha, NE. During the summit, many of this year's Gallup Great Workplace Award winners will present the best practices they applied to their workplaces and discuss the improved business results they achieved through building an engaged workforce.
