K-12 Student Development

Student success is the core of any school. Initiatives that are driven by subject matter or trendy technique risk missing what really matters -- teaching the whole student. Gallup's strengths-based approach to student development helps educators, leaders, adults, and students understand the unique talents of every child.

Rooted in the science of Positive Psychology, strengths-based student development begins with the assumption that every child is talented in his or her own special way. Gallup's Education Practice works with students to develop these natural patterns of thought, feeling, and behavior -- their talents -- through the Clifton Youth StrengthsExplorer and StrengthsQuest tools.

Both tools begin with an online assessment. After completion of the assessment, students are given a report of their top themes of talent along with action items to help build their talents into true strengths. Outstanding schools use a strengths-based approach to develop a common language of talent, both inside and outside the classroom.

Gallup works with districts to develop strengths-centered, customized student development programs. Consider the opportunities for the following:

  • student success plans
  • strengths-based curriculum design
  • seminars
  • school assemblies
  • student-lead parent/teacher conferences
  • parent involvement
  • community outreach
  • student leadership development
  • strengths-based career planning
  • mentoring programs
  • strengths-based school counseling
  • athletics
  • conflict resolution
