PrincipalInsight™

Gallup has been helping schools recruit and select outstanding principals for more than 20 years. The PrincipalInsight system -- Gallup 's latest advancement in principal selection -- can help districts:

  • identify applicants who have talents similar to those of the best principals
  • assess large numbers of applicants quickly and reliably
  • build a talent pool and strategically approach succession planning
  • reduce valuable district staff time currently devoted to screening applicants and redirect it to recruitment, organizing and supervising team interviews, in-depth time with finalists, or working with new principals
  • keep the HR office open 24/7
  • improve the effectiveness of development programs for aspiring and existing principals or assistant principals by identifying and developing their talents, not just their knowledge and skills

PrincipalInsight combines Gallup's in-depth study of the talents of outstanding principals with Web technology to deliver fast, accurate applicant assessment results to districts. This research-based selection tool goes far beyond a surface inquiry into knowledge and skills; it assesses the talents needed for success in the principal's role.

Applicants complete the Web-based assessment at their convenience and in approximately 40 minutes. Gallup 's report is based on the applicant's responses and includes a score that is predictive of an applicant's potential for success as a principal based on his or her talents. Gallup reports scores to districts through a secure Web site, Gallup Online, or results can be transmitted electronically. Districts can readily integrate scores into existing tracking systems.

Gallup consultants assist district representatives who use the PrincipalInsight data for decision-making and are available during system implementation. An extensive Implementation Guide provides step-by-step assistance in getting started, and Gallup 's client support group -- available by telephone or e-mail -- can quickly and effectively assist with questions from district staff members or applicants.

As part of PrincipalInsight, Gallup provides district representatives with the Principal FIT (Further Insight into Talent) interview. This series of open-ended questions assists district leaders or interview teams in assessing the "fit" of finalists for the position. The Principal FIT interview gives applicants an opportunity to describe in a personal interview some of the talents assessed by PrincipalInsight.
