Leading With Strengths

Leading With Strengths is a two-part program designed for school leaders who seek to implement and sustain strengths development in their schools. It is an ideal learning opportunity for both principals and central office personnel.

Part one is specifically designed to help school leaders discover, own, and more intentionally use their talents. Participants leave this session with a toolkit including six copies of Teach With Your Strengths to use with their teachers.

Part two follows 4-6 weeks later and equips participants with the tools to lead a learning community of teachers in the understanding, ownership, and application of their talents as individuals, partners, and team members. This process truly enables principals and central office personnel to make a plan for building a strengths-based school.

Prior to attending the program, participants complete the Clifton StrengthsFinder, a Web-based assessment that measures an individual's most dominant talents, regardless of position. Upon completing the assessment, participants receive their Signature Themes report, which they bring to the first session.

Leading With Strengths is different because:

  • it is an efficient and economical way for school leaders to take the next step and introduce talents to teachers and staff
  • it moves beyond just skills and knowledge training, focusing instead on talent discovery and development
  • a focus on talents and developing strengths is a positive approach that builds on who school leaders, teachers, and staff are, rather than who they are not
  • it equips school leaders with the tools to lead learning communities in understanding and applying staff members' talents

Benefits to Your District:

  • Provides a common language - encourages all staff to discover their talents, and gives them a new, positive language to talk about their similarities and differences
  • Presents new strategies for successful partnerships - enables school leaders and staff to develop an understanding of how they can build individual, partner, and team success
  • Enhances school culture - creates a strengths-based culture that affirms, values, and applies each individual's unique talents
