Physician Engagement

Gallup has studied the psychology of physician behavior for more than 50 years. Using this extensive understanding of the profession and its impact on the physical health of patients and the fiscal health of healthcare organizations, Gallup developed an improvement methodology that measures Physician Engagement and drives positive financial outcomes.

For many patients, their physicians embody the healthcare provider they trust for treatment. But the relationship between doctors and the organizations at which they practice is different than that of other staff members. For that reason, Gallup measures Physician Engagement using a method unique to the role of the doctor. Additionally, Gallup consultants deliver focused education and training programs organizations can use to increase engagement among their doctors.

This measurement and management of physician engagement results in overwhelmingly positive outcomes for providers; data show that organizations with high levels of physician engagement:

  • Receive higher revenue and earnings per admission and per patient day
  • Increase referrals from engaged physicians
  • Reduce physician recruiting costs
  • Sustain significant growth and profitability
