Regional Director, Middle East and North Africa, Gallup World Poll

Richard W. Burkholder, Jr., is an expert on international polling and regional director of the Gallup World Poll. He oversees all aspects of surveying in his areas, including topic selection, methodology, questionnaire design, and contextual analysis.

Burkholder designed and directed the 2002 Gallup Poll of the Islamic World, which analyzed the opinions of urban and rural residents of nine predominantly Muslim countries. Gallup is currently repeating this project as part of the World Poll and will eventually survey about 40 predominantly Muslim nations. He designed and directed the 2003 Gallup Poll of Baghdad and the Gallup Poll of Iraq.

In 1994, Burkholder helped direct the Gallup Poll of China, the first nationwide survey of China's entire adult popoulation. Subsequent surveys were conducted in in 1997, 1999, and 2004.
