Allan L. McCutcheon, Ph.D.

Professor, Statistics; Founding Chair, Survey Research and Methodology Graduate Program, University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Allan L. McCutcheon, Ph.D., is professor of statistics at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) and founding chair of the Survey Research and Methodology graduate program. His areas of expertise include categorical data analysis, survey research methods and design, cross-national and comparative survey research, political sociology, and sociology of religion.

McCutcheon is also the Donald O. Clifton Chair of Survey Science and the founding director of the Gallup Research Center at UNL; the Center focuses on all areas of survey research and quantitative methods, including public opinion, the quality of retrospective reports, consumer and employee satisfaction, and data utilization in the workplace. In his role as a Gallup Senior Scientist, which began in 1996, McCutcheon partners with Gallup consultants in the United States and Europe.

McCutcheon is an elected fellow of the American Statistical Association, a Scientific Advisory board member for the Center for Survey Research and Methodology, a former president of the Midwest Association for Public Opinion Research, the general secretary of the World Association for Public Opinion Research, and a member of the American Association for Public Opinion Research. He received the Lindbach Foundation Distinguished Teaching Award from the University of Delaware, where he taught sociology.

With dozens of published works, McCutcheon's book titles include Applied Latent Class Analysis Models (co-edited with Jacques A. Hagenaars) and Latent Class Analysis, a Sage University Paper series on quantitative applications in the social sciences. His most recent articles and chapters include "Basic Concepts and Procedures in Single and Multiple Group Latent Class Analysis"; "Education, Economic Experiences, Anxiety About and Support for the Czech Reforms"; and "Categorical Data Analysis: Log-linear and Latent Class Models."

McCutcheon earned his bachelor's degree from Iowa State University and master's and doctorate degrees from the University of Chicago.
