Gallup Daily: Tracking Consumer Confidence

Based on polling conducted Feb. 17-19, 2008

PRINCETON, NJ -- In Gallup Daily Tracking polling conducted Feb. 17-19, 35% of Americans rate current economic conditions as "poor" and just 23% rate them as "excellent" or "good."

For over a month now, Americans have been more likely to rate the economy in these very negative terms (as "poor") than in positive terms ("excellent" or "good"). As has been true all year, the vast majority of the public says the economy is getting worse (77%) rather than better (15%). -- Jeff Jones

Methodology: Gallup is interviewing no fewer than 1,000 U.S. adults nationwide each day during 2008. The results reported here are based on combined data from 1,488 interviews conducted Feb. 17-19, 2008. For results based on this sample, the maximum margin of sampling error is ±3 percentage points. In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.
