Gallup Daily: Obama 48%, Clinton 45%

Based on polling conducted March 8-10, 2008

PRINCETON, NJ -- Barack Obama has a slim 48% to 45% advantage over Hillary Clinton in Gallup Poll Daily election tracking for March 8-10 among national Democrats.

Clinton improved her standing in Monday night's interviewing, and -- as has so often been the case this year -- it appears that the two contenders for the Democratic nomination are going to continue in a neck and neck race with neither candidate able to sustain a significant lead over the other.

Democrats go to the polls again Tuesday in Mississippi, and it is considered highly probable that Obama will win the majority of votes and delegates in that Southern state. The impact, if any, of the Mississippi vote will begin to be registered in Gallup's reporting on Thursday of this week. After Mississippi there will be a long period with no primary or caucus voting until the Pennsylvania primaries on April 22. -- Frank Newport

Methodology: Gallup is interviewing no fewer than 1,000 U.S. adults nationwide each day during 2008. The results reported here are based on combined data from March 8-10, including interviews with 1,306 Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters. For results based on these samples, the maximum margin of sampling error is ±3 percentage points. In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.
