Gallup Daily: Obama Maintains 6-Point Lead Over Clinton

PRINCETON, NJ -- Gallup Poll Daily tracking from May 11-13 shows no change in Democratic nomination preferences, with Barack Obama holding a 50% to 44% advantage over Hillary Clinton.

Obama has now held a significant lead each of the last three days. Most of the interviewing for today's update was completed before Clinton's decisive win in the West Virginia primary. The Democrats' advantages over John McCain in the general election matchups have narrowed, and now both races show a statistical dead heat. Obama's margin over McCain is just one percentage point (46% to 45%) while Clinton's advantage is three points (48% to 45%). -- Jeff Jones

Survey Methods

For the Gallup Poll Daily tracking survey, Gallup is interviewing no fewer than 1,000 U.S. adults nationwide each day during 2008.

The Democratic nomination results are based on combined data from May 11-13, 2008. For results based on this sample of 1,247 Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters, the maximum margin of sampling error is ±3 percentage points.

The general election results are based on combined data from May 9-13, 2008. For results based on this sample of 4,381 registered voters, the maximum margin of sampling error is ±2 percentage points.

In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.
