U.S. - Global Leadership Event

February 9, 2010

On behalf of Meridian International Center and Gallup, we invite you to participate in the launch of the U.S. - Global Leadership Project. The U.S. - Global Leadership Project is a comprehensive assessment of U.S. leadership as seen through the eyes of the world.

Meridian and Gallup have partnered to create the U.S. - Global Leadership Track, the largest global public opinion study of U.S. leadership, collected by Gallup. The Project combines Gallup's unique insight into 100 countries and Meridian's leadership context to create a powerful and useful barometer of U.S. global leadership. Global attitudes shape political decisions and market opportunities. Understanding countries' perceptions of the U.S. and the factors driving these positions will serve as an important tool for policy makers and business leaders.

To launch this project, Meridian and Gallup will co-host a briefing and discussion on February 9. Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg has been invited to deliver keynote remarks on major trends in America's relationships with the world. By combining expert opinion and context to the global public opinion data in the Track, we will:

  1. allow public and private sector leaders to better understand what is driving global views of U.S. leadership
  2. create a context for cooperation and collaboration to improve those views
  3. enhance US public and private global engagement efforts

The launch will include input from 100 countries with specific focus on the perspectives of regional and political blocs, including the G-20 countries. These countries' viewpoints will serve as an important indicator of U.S. leadership in a time of global economic difficulty. Ultimately, the U.S. Global Leadership Track will combine information from over 150 countries in the Gallup World Poll.

We hope you will join a group of leaders from the public and private sectors and the diplomatic community to contribute your insight and to help shape this ongoing assessment. The program will be held on Tuesday, February 9 from 8:30-10:00 a.m. at The Gallup Building, 901 F Street, NW, Washington, D.C. The event is free, but registration is required.
