Wellbeing: The Leading Metric of Thriving Cities

On May 10, 2010, at its headquarters in Washington D.C., Gallup brought together world-renowned research scientists and nationally recognized leaders from healthcare, government, and industry to better understand and explore crucial issues that drive wellbeing in U.S. cities.

This dynamic event presented detailed analyses of wellbeing in cities and offered insights from the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index and the Gallup World Poll. Participants were able to interact with the speakers and identify directions for future research, cross-sector partnerships, and next steps for the health transformation of citizens in the U.S. and countries around the world.

These extraordinary speakers joined Gallup Chairman and CEO Jim Clifton, Gallup Senior Scientist in Residence, Shane J. Lopez, Ph.D., and Gallup wellbeing researcher Dan Witters, as they examined wellbeing in cities.

Each person who attended this event received a copy of Wellbeing: The Five Essential Elements by bestselling authors Tom Rath and Jim Harter, Ph.D., The Ultimate Happiness Prescription by Deepak Chopra, M.D., and Happiness: Unlocking the Mysteries of Psychological Wealth by Ed Diener, Ph.D. Additionally, Dr. Chopra and Dr. Diener graciously agreed to a book signing following the event.
