Angus Deaton, Ph.D., is the Dwight D. Eisenhower Professor of International Affairs and Professor of Economics and International Affairs at the Woodrow Wilson School of Public & International Affairs and the Economics Department at Princeton University. A 2015 Nobel Prize winner in economic sciences, Dr. Deaton's research areas include health, well-being, economic development, and the analysis of household behavior, especially at the microeconomic level. His current research focuses on the determinants of health and well-being in rich and poor countries, as well as on the measurement of poverty in India and around the world. He is the author of The Great Escape: Health, Wealth, and the Origins of Inequality.

As a Senior Scientist, Dr. Deaton works with Gallup to understand patterns of well-being around the world. He also advises Gallup on methodological processes and statistical analysis.

Dr. Deaton is a British and American citizen and has previously taught at Cambridge University and the University of Bristol. He is a corresponding Fellow of the British Academy and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is also a Fellow of the Econometric Society and was the first recipient of the Society's Frisch Medal in 1978. Dr. Deaton served as President of the American Economic Association in 2009. In 2011, he was awarded the BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in Economics, Finance, and Management and was elected to the American Philosophical Society in 2014.
