Frank L. Schmidt, Ph.D., is Professor Emeritus of Management and Organizations in the Tippie College of Business at the University of Iowa. He has been a faculty member since 1985.

Dr. Schmidt joined Gallup as a Senior Scientist in 1993. He advises Gallup associates about meta-analysis, measurement, personnel selection research methods and substantive individual differences in research findings. He also consults with Gallup associates about Gallup's Q12 employee engagement research and associate selection studies and helps answer client questions about Gallup's research findings. Dr. Schmidt has contributed research and methodology relating to the study of Gallup's Q12 survey, the Clifton StrengthsFinder and various selection interviews. He has published several articles in research journals that present discoveries on Gallup's selection interviews and Q12 survey.

Dr. Schmidt has published more than 200 research articles and book chapters on personnel selection, selection utility, meta-analyses of the validity of selection methods, and research and meta-analysis methods. He has coauthored six books, including Methods of Meta-Analysis: Correcting Error and Bias in Research Findings, which he coauthored with John Hunter. His research has been cited over 41,000 times, and his h-index is 81.

Dr. Schmidt is Past President of Division 5: Quantitative and Qualitative Methods of the American Psychological Association, past chair of the Defense Advisory Committee on Military Personnel Testing and a former member of the Liaison Advisory Group to the Committee on the General Aptitude Test Battery of the National Research Council, National Academy of Sciences. He is the recipient of many awards and honors, including the Distinguished Scientific Contributions Award from the American Psychological Association and from the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology (SIOP); a Lifetime Research Methods Contribution Award from the American Academy of Management; the Heneman Distinguished Career Award for Research Contributions to Human Resources from the Academy of Management, Human Resources Division; the Ingram Olkin Award for contributions to meta-analysis methods from the Society for Research Synthesis Methods; the Frederick Mosteller Award for Distinctive Contributions to Systematic Reviewing, Campbell Collaboration; the Gold Medal Lifetime Achievement Award for Applications of Psychology from the American Psychological Foundation; and the 2015 Dunnette Award from SIOP for research contributions to the understanding of individual differences in the workplace.

Dr. Schmidt earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Bellarmine University and his master's and doctorate degrees in industrial and organizational psychology from Purdue University. He serves on the editorial boards of the Review of Work and Organizational Psychology; Psychological Bulletin; the International Journal of Selection and Assessment; Research Synthesis Methods Journal; Psychological Methods; and the Archives of Scientific Psychology.
