Simon Cooper is the founder of Simon Cooper & Associates. This global consultancy provides clients with insights and advice on leadership, including successful team building, global team development, international expansion and crisis leadership. He also serves as a Senior Adviser to Gallup.
A renowned expert on service excellence and cultural transformation, Simon is widely known as an influential leader in the hospitality industry. During his 17-year career at Marriott, he led operations for Marriott's Asia-Pacific region while serving as its president and managing director and helping the region achieve significant growth. Simon also served as president and chief operating officer of The Ritz-Carlton, leading the company through considerable growth and new product development. During this time, The Ritz-Carlton earned the highest accolades from organizations such as The Luxury Institute and J.D. Power and Associates. In 2009, The Ritz-Carlton received the World Savers Award from Condé Nast Traveler for its Community Footprints program.
In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Simon has been active in industry and public service leadership. He has served as chair of the Board of Governors of the University of Guelph, as a trustee of the Educational Institute of the American Hotel & Lodging Association and as director of the Canadian Tourism Commission. He has also served as a board member of First Horizon National Corporation (First Tennessee) and as a member of the Canada Institute Advisory Board's Wilson Center.
Simon earned a master's in business administration from the University of Toronto and received an honorary doctorate of laws from the University of Guelph.
