Criticism of Kazakhstan's recent parliamentary elections echoes concerns expressed by nearly half of Kazakhstanis in a 2006 Gallup World Poll. Forty-three percent say they do not have confidence in the honesty of the country's elections, while 41% say they do. In addition, two-thirds of Kazakhstanis think corruption is widespread within the country's government, and 58% say the level of corruption in Kazakhstan is higher than it was during the Soviet era.
