Americans Underestimate the Cost of Tying the Knot

Women spend less on gifts than men do

In a new Gallup Panel survey, nearly 9 in 10 Americans say people spend too much on weddings. But Americans still underestimate the actual cost of tying the knot. When buying wedding gifts for friends and relatives, most Americans think spending between $50 and $125 is appropriate. Americans who frequently attend church services give either an explicitly religious rationale for their attendance or one that deals with a spiritual or inspirational dimension of churchgoing. Honesty and strong leadership are the qualities Americans are most looking for in the next president, according to a recent Gallup Poll. Managerial competence rates third on Americans' list of qualifications. A majority of Americans also say it is essential that the next president "focus on uniting the country."
