More than 6 in 10 Americans, according to recent Gallup Polls, say President Bush should not veto a bill that would expand federal funding on embryonic stem cell research. Most Americans say the government should ease the current restrictions on funding stem cell research, though few believe there should be no restrictions at all. Nearly 6 in 10 Americans disapprove of President Bush's decision to veto a bill that would have expanded federal funding for embryonic stem cell research. Most Americans do not feel the president made this decision in an attempt to gain political advantage, but rather on the basis of his personal moral beliefs.
