Europeans' and Americans' confidence in their financial institutions has followed a similar trajectory throughout the global economic crisis, suggesting a strong link between the two struggling economies.

Greeks' confidence in their country's national government hit an all-time low of 18% earlier this year, and their faith in their financial institutions has fallen sharply since 2005. Neither trend bodes well for Greece's economic restructuring and recovery.
Americans view the computer industry the most positively and the federal government the least positively when asked to evaluate 25 business and industry sectors. The federal government's image is at an all-time low.

Thirty-six percent of Americans have "very little" or "no" confidence in U.S. banks -- up from 30% last year and the highest on record. For the third consecutive year, more Americans express little or no confidence in banks than say they have "a great deal" or "quite a lot."

This year, there has been a slight uptick in Americans' confidence in television news and newspapers, though each ranks in the lower half of the 16 institutions tested.
