Democratic enthusiasm for voting in midterms is the lowest seen this year
August 2, 2010
Registered voters favor Republicans by 48% and Democrats by 43% in Gallup's generic congressional ballot for the week of July 26 through Aug. 1. This follows two weeks when the numbers were nearly reversed.
Forty-five percent of conservative registered voters, including 62% who say they are "very conservative," are highly enthusiastic about voting in this year's midterm elections. That level of enthusiasm is much greater than that expressed by liberals (26%) or moderates (22%).
Through June of 2009, the number of states with solid Democratic and solid Republican advantages in party identification remains unchanged from 2008. Aside from the District of Columbia, Massachusetts now ranks as the most Democratic state in the nation, while Utah and Wyoming continue to be the most Republican.
