At a time of year when thoughts often turn to those less fortunate, Gallup finds the struggle to afford adequate housing disproportionately affects residents in sub-Saharan Africa and the former Soviet Union.
Median U.S. leadership approval remained stable at about 50% in the European Union between 2009 and 2010. Approval did drop, however, in countries where the effects of the global financial and economic crisis remain severe, including Greece, Ireland, and Portugal.

Religiosity is strongly related to per-capita income worldwide. In the poorest countries Gallup surveyed in 2009, a median of 95% of adults say religion is an important part of their daily lives, compared with 47% who say the same in the world's richest countries.

As millions this World Environment Day reflect on how they can conserve the diversity of life on Earth, a Flash Eurobarometer survey finds more than 9 in 10 adults in the European Union agree that biodiversity loss is a very or fairly serious problem globally.
Citizens in 12 of 15 former Soviet countries surveyed earlier this year choose their own local currency or the euro over the U.S. dollar as the most profitable and safe currency to keep their money in.
