In a Gallup Poll last year, Americans were asked to rate their perceptions of the safety of major American cities. Detroit was seen as the least safe of any city tested.

November 9, 2007Gallup's annual Crime poll finds little change in the percentage of Americans who say they were crime victims in the past year, with roughly 3 in 10 saying they or a member of their household has been a victim. Property theft and vandalism are the most commonly reported crimes.

October 26, 2007Among the different things people can do to protect themselves against crime, Americans are most inclined to say they avoid certain neighborhoods, and are least likely to carry a weapon for defense. More Americans report having an alarm system in their homes than at any other point in the past seven years.
