The Gallup Physician Leadership Academy is designed to support physician leaders -- or those who aspire to be leaders -- to enhance their interpersonal effectiveness, management competencies, and strategic decision-making skills.
Through decades of research and thousands of interviews with great leaders, Gallup researchers discovered the factors that are crucial to leadership success. Built on these demands of leadership, this strengths-based leadership program offers physicians the opportunity to adopt new assumptions and a fresh approach to their personal leadership styles. Physicians will learn innovative new ideas and re-energize their vision for the future.
The Physician Leadership Academy supports leaders as they:
- develop a comprehensive understanding of their talents and how to apply them to increase their leadership impact
- examine how their leadership and management styles influence team culture and employee engagement, which in turn can improve business outcomes and boost retention and per-person productivity during times of change
- assess their leadership effectiveness across the demands of physician leadership -- the challenges that leaders must meet to maximize their leadership impact:

- formulate a clear leadership strategy and present it as a vision statement
- create goals based on the demands of physician leadership with measurement that tracks the physician's leadership impact
- develop a strategy with a Gallup Executive Coach to achieve measurable performance improvement and interpersonal effectiveness
What you can expect
In this cutting-edge leadership program that is highlighted by a 3-day classroom component, participants will learn about the demands of physician leadership and explore how these concepts can be used to shape an effective leadership strategy. They also gain a greater understanding of how these demands apply to themselves, their talents, and their leadership style.
Before the program begins, physicians will have the opportunity to complete the following:
- the Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment, which provides with insights into the physician's areas of greatest talent, for the physician and up to five team members or colleagues
- the Gallup Executive Leader assessment, which provides feedback on key leadership areas, including execution, influence, relationships, strategic thinking, work style, and drivers of motivation
- an optional Leader Constituency Feedback (360-degree tool) and report
- participating in a one-on-one session with a Gallup performance coach
During the program, physicians will learn how to increase engagement and boost organizational performance by:
- learning about the demands of physician leadership and exploring how these concepts can be used to shape an effective leadership strategy
- receiving a personal and confidential report created by their Executive Coach
- gauging how different leadership styles support or undermine strength-building behaviors that lead to employee engagement and performance
- learning how to turn the Four Keys of Great Management to select for talent, define the right outcomes, focus on strengths, and find the right fit
After the program, a Gallup Executive Coach supports each physician to maximize the momentum and energy generated during the program through:
- participating in two one-on-one executive coaching sessions. Coaches will use the Clifton StrengthsFinder and other reports to help physicians formulate an action plan to enhance their effectiveness
Upon the completion of the program:
- Gallup University provides a Certificate of Leadership to each physician upon completion of executive coaching
- Gallup University awards credits toward the Leadership Foundations block of the MBA/MA in Physician Executive Leadership program
