In the healthcare industry, the call for improved performance is never ending. Healthcare organizations must continually seek new solutions to succeed in the face of mounting pressure for increased patient safety, better clinical outcomes, and improved financial performance. The most effective solution may not be an improvement in process, practice, or methods, but an improvement in the people leading those initiatives.
Gallup's MBA/MA in Executive Leadership programs differ from traditional programs that attempt to improve leadership. By improving and intentionally developing leadership, healthcare organizations can attain measurable improvement in the outcomes that matter most.
"Past attempts at [developing healthcare] leadership have been random, and those individuals finding themselves in leadership roles often do so accidentally," said Fred Hosler, MD, MPA. "To achieve excellence, it is imperative that we move to strategic selection of high-potential emerging leaders and intentionally develop them. The Gallup program is unique in that it is carefully designed to do exactly that."
Superior Curriculum Creates Return on Investment
Participants in the MBA/MA in Executive Leadership, specifically for healthcare leaders, will learn from a program that blends world-class thinking with real-world application. They will master principles of individual, team, and organizational leadership as well as the "lean thinking" strategies pioneered by organizations such as Toyota. They also will learn leadership strategies for confronting the most pressing concerns in the healthcare industry, within their organization and from a global perspective. Gallup's approach to these programs fully integrates all areas of healthcare leadership, including physician, nursing and administration.
Master's program participants are charged with investigating, developing, and implementing a project plan that will have a positive and measurable impact on the performance of their organization. Past graduates of the Gallup MBA/MA in Executive Leadership programs have shown performance improvements through their projects that average approximately $2.5 million (U.S.) to their organization. Participants themselves also benefit: Graduates of Gallup's program have been promoted an average of two levels and increased their salary an average of $65,000 per year.
Program Details
The MA program uses a phased or accelerated approach that consists of 12 courses or 36 total credits. The courses are delivered in blocks of three courses over an 18-month time span. Participants interested in earning an MBA take an additional block of business-related courses that offers an in-depth focus on accounting, finance, human capital, and economics.
The MBA/MA program has three levels of customized learning that healthcare organizations can take advantage of. The first is organization specific. Multiple leaders from one organization can enroll together with the curriculum personalized to the culture and challenges facing that individual organization. The second level allows for one to three similar healthcare organizations to combine and have curriculum tailored to the group. The third level is for individual healthcare leaders. They will be combined with other healthcare leaders from all over the world in a global cohort.
Healthcare leaders will also work with a Gallup executive performance coach during the program and for three years following its completion. Leaders also can participate in events designed for collaboration and application of proven best practices. These benefits help ensure the application of classroom learning and development of authentic leadership.
