Great Manager Program

Based on the bestselling book, First, Break All the Rules: What the World's Greatest Managers Do Differently, the Great Manager Program reveals Gallup's discoveries from one of the largest management studies in the world -- 80,000 managers in 400 companies.

The Great Manager Program is one of Gallup University's most popular programs, attended by thousands of managers and executives from the world's most prestigious companies. Managers gain a greater understanding of self and their management style. They discover the employee-engaging concepts, strategies, and tools that assist them in turning the Four Keys to Great Management and unleashing the human potential within their organizations.

Objectives/Outcomes

Managers will:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of their strengths as managers.
  • Gauge how management style supports or undermines strengths-building behaviors that lead to employee engagement and performance.
  • Assess their workgroup's engagement levels and develop a plan to achieve crucial business outcomes.
  • Understand the Four Keys to Great Management and learn how to "turn the keys" with each employee on their teams:
    • Select for talent.
    • Define the right outcomes.
    • Focus on strengths.
    • Find the right fit.
  • Leave prepared to work with each employee to enhance engagement and boost team performance.

Individualized Manager Development

Prior to attending the Great Manager Program, participants complete Gallup's Clifton StrengthsFinder assessment and gain access to a two-hour developmental e-learning course.

  • The Clifton StrengthsFinder provides managers with insights into their greatest areas of talent.
  • The e-learning course introduces managers and executives to the basics of strengths theory and strengths-based development concepts.

Each participant's team members are asked to complete a Gallup Q 12employee engagement survey.

  • The Q 12 employee engagement report reveals how the participant's management style influences team member perceptions and employee engagement.

During the course, participants learn about their talents and strengths, gain insights for personal and professional development, and acquire strategies to increase their workgroup's performance and engagement through group instruction, personal one-on-one consulting, and small group interaction.

  • Gallup Executive Consultants use each manager's Clifton StrengthsFinder and employee engagement data to help participants become more effective as managers and formulate their Four Keys management strategy.

Gallup Executive Consultants help managers maximize the momentum and energy generated during the course by consulting with them again six months following the program.

  • Consultants and managers establish a follow-up plan, and managers track their progress as they develop, practice, and refine their Four Keys management strategy.

Course length: 2.5 days
Tuition: $4,000

CEUs: approved by American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) for Category II continuing education credit
