Question & Answer

Q: What do you do at Gallup?

A: My official title is "Learning Solutions Consultant," but I do a little bit of everything. Working in one of our international offices in Sydney, Australia, means we get to wear lots of hats, and we have the opportunity to reach outside our comfort zones and challenge ourselves regularly. Every international market is different, and it's great that our leaders trust us to know what will work best in our country location.

Q: How do you live out Gallup's mission?

A: From the moment I understood Gallup's CliftonStrengths approach, I knew I wanted to work here. All of our philosophies are rooted in data, analytics and evidence-based solutions, which means that all of our clients -- whether that be schools, charities, hospitals, large organizations or small companies -- that are key to our communities' success will be changed for the better because of our work. I really get to change the world one person at a time. Our clients love us, and they take us with them when they move on -- the ultimate endorsement of the work we do.

Q: What's a typical day like for you at Gallup?

A: I get on the computer around 6 a.m. to work for an hour or so to see what has come in overnight from the U.S., and then I get some exercise and either go into the office or work from home. Most days, I have at least two new prospect calls or meetings, and I spend a lot of time working with my existing clients developing their strengths and engagement strategies. I do a lot of public speaking at conferences and events, and I host the Called to Coach webcasts for Australia and New Zealand.

Q: What made you want to join Gallup?

A: Before joining Gallup, I had a variety of great jobs: I was a television news reporter and anchor, an English teacher to ESL businesspeople from Japan, and a triathlon coach. Never in my wildest dreams did I see myself working for an advice and analytics company. I heard about Gallup from a friend who was becoming a Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach, and I acted as one of his "coachees." After I took the assessment and he coached me on my top five CliftonStrengths, I knew I wanted to learn more. He recommended I look into an open opportunity, and several interviews later I was hired.

Q: Why do you continue to work here?

A: I love my job! Nothing is as engaging as success, and because Gallup selects individuals for their ability to do what they do best -- and our science proves that -- I knew I would find success if I worked at being the best version of me. Gallup also gives me great flexibility and the ability to job craft. As long as I meet my goals, I get to figure out the best way to achieve them.

Q: What qualities do people need to be successful here?

A: Everyone brings such unique talents and strengths to the table, but the ability to be flexible, take initiative and have the courage to metaphorically "sail a boat whilst you build it" is crucial.

Q: What are your favorite parts of your job, workplace and team?

A: My favorite parts of my job include public speaking, seeing and hearing great impact at my client organizations, and working with team members to craft creative solutions.

Q: How would you describe our culture?

A: Flexible, positive and supportive.

Q: What is different about Gallup compared with other companies you have worked for?

A: In other roles outside of Gallup, I felt I needed to be someone else to succeed. There were times before joining Gallup that I felt like a square peg in a round hole but not here. Here I do best being myself.

Q: What are your biggest motivators at work?

A: Winning! Can you tell I have Competition high?
