  • Learn how themes form the core of CliftonStrengths and how to understand and appreciate your own -- and others' -- strengths, as we focus on Empathy.

On a recent Theme Thursday Season 1 live webcast, we discussed the Empathy theme with Gallup Learning and Development Advanced Consultant Danny Lee.

People with strong Empathy talents are able to build and form relationships that have great emotional depth. Others feel understood by them and seek their company. Their innate ability to understand the emotions of those around them provides comfort and stability.

Gallup Senior Learning and Development Consultant Curt Liesveld says the Empathy theme is most accurately defined as the attention to the emotional state of others. Individuals with Empathy are also in touch with their own emotions and know how to effectively express them to others.

Each theme has a basement and a balcony that indicates the maturity of a theme within an individual. The basement of Empathy can be perceived as soft or weak. The balcony, on the other hand, creates trust and the ability to know exactly what to say or do. Those with high Empathy talents have a knack for creating customizable approaches to other people.

Danny uses his Empathy talents in his professional role to help people find clarity, whether it is in their business or their personal life. Empathy helps him understand who a person truly is, what they want and what their needs are. The theme also gives him the wherewithal to understand the best way to present to any given group of people.

To hear more about Empathy and how Danny uses it in his everyday life, watch the full video or listen to the audio above.

Danny Lee's Top 5 CliftonStrengths are Individualization, Empathy, Connectedness, Harmony and Developer.
