Artificial Intelligence

Key finding: Roughly three in 10 U.S. employees (28%) use AI at work a few times a week or more. Manager support is the strongest driver of widespread adoption.

Gallup tracks workplace AI adoption over time, including usage frequency, employee comfort, manager support, organizational integration and strategic communication. Employees whose managers actively support AI use are nearly twice as likely to use it frequently and seven times as likely to say it helps them do what they do best. Manager enablement is critical to turning AI investment into real business value.

What We Measure

What Percentage of Employees Use AI at Work?

As of February 2026, 13% of U.S. employees use AI daily in their role, 28% use it a few times a week or more, and half use it a few times a year or more.

Key Insight
Experimentation is widespread, but regular adoption remains limited. Roughly three in 10 employees have integrated AI into their weekly workflows.

Does AI Improve Productivity at Work?

As of February 2026, two in three employees (66%) working in organizations that have implemented AI say it has had a positive effect on their productivity and efficiency at work, including 16% who say the impact has been “very positive.”

Is AI Really Changing the Way People Work?

As of February 2026, roughly one in 10 employees (12%) in organizations that have implemented AI strongly agree it has transformed how work gets done in their organization.

Key Insight
Two in three employees say AI has improved their productivity — yet just 12% strongly agree it has changed how work gets done. This suggests that, for most workers, AI is a productivity enhancer within existing workflows rather than a catalyst for reinvention.

Do Managers Support Employee Use of AI?

As of February 2026, one in five employees (21%) strongly agree that their manager supports their team’s use of AI.

This matters because Gallup’s research shows employees in AI-adopting organizations who strongly agree that their manager actively supports their team’s use of AI are:

1.7x as likely to use AI a few times a week or more

7.4x as likely to strongly agree that AI gives them more opportunities to do what they do best every day

8.7x as likely to strongly agree that AI has transformed how work gets done in their organization

Key Takeaway
Organizations that want AI adoption to grow should start by equipping their managers.

What Percentage of Companies Have Integrated AI?

As of February 2026, 41% of U.S. employees say their organization has integrated AI technology or tools to improve organizational practices.

The integration-adoption lag: While two in five organizations have begun integrating AI, only 28% of employees use it regularly. This suggests implementation doesn’t guarantee use.

Do Most Companies Have a Clear AI Strategy?

Employees don’t think so. As of November 2025, 26% of U.S. employees say their organization has communicated a clear plan for integrating AI into current practices.

The strategy vacuum: Three in four employees report that their organization has not communicated a clear AI plan, which may contribute to low comfort levels and limited adoption.

Results for the Gallup poll of U.S. employees are based on self-administered web surveys of a random sample of adults who are aged 18 and older, working full time or part time for organizations in the United States, and members of the Gallup Panel. Gallup uses probability-based, random sampling methods to recruit its Panel members. Gallup weighted the obtained samples to correct for nonresponse. Nonresponse adjustments were made by adjusting the sample to match the national demographics of gender, age, race, Hispanic ethnicity, education and region. Demographic weighting targets were based on the most recent Current Population Survey figures for the aged 18 and older U.S. population. In addition to sampling error, question wording and practical difficulties in conducting surveys can introduce error or bias into the findings of public opinion polls.

Gallup defines "Total AI users" as employees who say they used AI at work a few times a year or more. "Frequent AI users" are those who indicate they use AI at work a few times a week or more. Reporting on employees who say their organization has implemented AI includes all employees who at the time of survey said "yes," to the best of their knowledge, their organization had implemented AI technology or tools to improve organizational practices. Starting in Q3 2025, Gallup added a “don’t know” option to this question to capture uncertainty about AI adoption. Because respondents could now indicate a lack of knowledge, results from Q3 2025 and later for this question are not directly comparable with earlier measurements.

In line charts on this webpage, Gallup labels some data points with a year and month. Years that have only one data point labeled with the year and "Jan" (abbreviated for "January") reflect annual survey results. Years that have one data point labeled with a specific month besides January or that have multiple data points labeled with specific months reflect results obtained during the noted month(s). When Gallup’s survey field dates for one data point occur in more than one month, Gallup labels the data point with the ending month.
