Positive Outcomes, Equitable Experiences: The 2020 Gallup-2U Graduate Alumni Outcomes Study

Find out whether online graduate degree programs are delivering the outcomes that all alumni expect from their investment.

The second annual Gallup-2U Graduate Alumni Outcomes Study captures the experiences of recent graduates from 2U partner programs at a rare moment in history. In 2020, alumni grappled with the global COVID-19 pandemic and the racial justice movement in the U.S. -- both of which will undoubtedly have a lasting effect on the landscape of higher education.

This report details what Gallup and education technology leader 2U learned from digging deeper into the career outcomes of recent alumni who received their online graduate degrees from 2U partner programs. The study interviewed 669 alumni who received their degrees in 2015 or later, including 223 who graduated in the first full year of the COVID-19 pandemic, to assess:

  • What motivated them to attend graduate school?
  • Have they achieved their goals?
  • Are alumni thriving in their careers and wellbeing -- even amid the COVID-19 pandemic?
  • What experiences did they have in graduate school that predicted these outcomes?
  • Were the experiences and outcomes for alumni of color any different from White alumni?
