I am a British-born Chinese woman and spent my early childhood living in vibrant and colourful Hong Kong in the 70’s.
I moved back to England as a teenager and had to quickly learn English as a new language in a new school, in a small town in Yorkshire, looking back on my younger self, that was a real struggle!
Diversity and inclusion didn’t appear to exist in society back in the 80’s!
Despite the language barrier, through my love of numbers, I achieved my university degree in Maths & Computer Science at Manchester.
I started my career in corporate and worked my way up to be Head of the department, punctuated by two periods of maternity leave to have our fabulous daughters. I was always a career girl and fully understand the inner struggle and guilt some women have to go through trying to achieve both.
I am an authentic and resilient people leader having spent all my career working for a Corporate, and latterly the Managing Director of a leading Franchise business.
I am proud to have successfully led the growth of our Franchise business 4 fold in the past 12 years with a team expansion of 160 FTE. However, with the forecast closure of the Franchise programme, I manage a declining business to closure. This requires a completely different mindset of leadership, motivation and skill to retain the team during a time of measured decline. The support and development of my team over the years now repaid in spades through their loyalty.
I am a passionate advocate for women in leadership, diversity and inclusion. I am excited to be a Gallup-certified Clifton Strengths coach, my mission is very simply to help people achieve more with their natural strengths and to have fun at the same time.
