As a Professor of Latin American and Latinx Studies at John Jay College and Research Scholar in Residence at the Fund for the City of New York's Center for Youth and the Future of Work, I bridge the worlds of rigorous academic research and transformative leadership development. My work is guided by a fundamental belief: understanding our own and other people's strengths is the foundation for creating lasting change.
My research with immigrant youth, asylum seekers, and working students has shown me time and again that people navigate complex challenges not despite their circumstances, but through the unique strengths they bring. This asset-based approach- which recognizes individuals as sophisticated navigators rather than passive recipients- is exactly why I'm passionate about CliftonStrengths coaching. It provides a powerful framework to help people name, claim, and leverage what they already do well.
As a Certified Gallup StrengthsFinder Leadership Coach, I've designed and facilitated professional development for diverse organizations, including the New York Community Trust Leadership Fellows, City University of New York, NYPD’s Mentoring Unit, New York University, City Year's Leadership Institute, Hispanic Federation, and the Rising Leaders Program as part of the Fund for the City of NY’s development series. Whether I'm coaching mid-career professionals, emerging leaders, or graduate students, I bring the same commitment: creating spaces where people can discover how their strengths translate into leadership, career advancement, and meaningful impact.
My consulting work focuses on strength-based leadership development for professionals in education, nonprofit, and social impact sectors. I've designed multi-year professional development cohorts that have supported over 200 professionals, combining individual coaching, workshop facilitation, and strategic advising.
I hold a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies from NYU and an M.S.W. from Columbia University. My research on migration, workforce development, and educational equity informs my coaching practice, helping clients understand not just their individual strengths but how to navigate systems and leverage social capital for success.
Outside of coaching, you'll find me teaching, presenting at national conferences, or working on my book project examining immigrant integration in American cities. I'm a proud first-generation scholar committed to opening pathways for others, and I believe that recognizing and developing our strengths is essential to building more equitable, thriving communities.
