From Air Force veteran to overcoming homelessness, to becoming a successful songwriter and business professional, Rod Holmes embodies resilience, purpose, and the transformative power of faith. As a Gallup Strengths Coach, he brings a deep understanding of perserverance and grit, along with a lived perspective on what it takes to maintain hope in the face of adversity.
Mississippi-born and raised, Rod Holmes is an Air Force Veteran and former AmeriCorps VISTA. During his graduate studies, he served in the Division of Student Affairs as a Service Learning Coordinator within the Office of Student Leadership and Community Engagement. He earned a Master’s degree in Public Policy and Administration, later gaining corporate experience with Swift Transportation, where he held leadership roles across the Southwest and the southern Texas/Gulf region.
Currently, Rod serves as Assistant Director in the Office of Student Leadership and Community Engagement at Mississippi State University, where he also serves as the instructor of the Montgomery Leadership Program. He is a Ph.D. candidate in Higher Education Leadership, continuing his commitment to developing impactful leaders.
As a Gallup-certified coach, Rod leverages his CliftonStrengths—Belief, Connectedness, Achiever, Responsibility, and Developer—to engage diverse communities and support leadership development. His work focuses on outreach, research and development, public policy, and interfaith engagement, which are areas where strong leadership, effective team dynamics, and personal growth are essential. Through his coaching and service, Rod is dedicated to strengthening communities and empowering others to thrive.
