Über James Ong

James is the co-founder and learning facilitator with Three Cords. He has more than 20 years of experience in training and coaching youths and young adults across varied settings (such as educational and military institutes, religious and non-profit organisations) both locally and regionally.

Combining his work experiences in the public, private, religious and non-profit sectors with his training as a sociologist, James is often able to see the big picture and connect the dots in a way that brings clarity to situations and gives hope to others.

A strong relator, James is able to establish a deep connection with people in a short time. He appreciates the uniqueness of each individual and often hears the unvoiced needs and questions in others. With insight and sensitivity, he customises his approach and response so that each individual can experience breakthroughs and move one step closer to realising their full potential.

James has coached staff and facilitated workshops for organisations such as Microsoft, Johnson & Johnson, Deliveroo, Republic of Singapore Air Force, Consumers Association of Singapore, Solve n+1, Silver Generation Office, Youth Corps Singapore, KLC International Institute, Central Singapore Community Development Council, SINDA Youth Club, Toa Payoh Methodist Church and Faith AOG.

Besides being a change maker, James believes in mentoring young adults towards the same end in order to build a growing and sustainable movement. He is a resident coach of MentorsHub (mentorshub.sg), a social mentorship initiative with the goal of facilitating young adults towards a purposeful, impactful and fulfilling life. He is also an EXCO member and leads the fundraising committee to facilitate MentorsHub’s season of growth and capability development.

His passion to see strong marriages and strong parent-child relationships has led James to volunteer as a family life advocate and workshop facilitator with the Centre for Fathering / Dads for Life Movement.

Being passionate about helping others through coaching

Since young, James enjoyed deep and meaningful conversations. Over time, he noticed how people appreciated his insights into their lives and situations. He also found great satisfaction in journeying with people to encourage and enable them to reach new heights in their relationships or work. The more he understood his passions, strengths and personality, it became clear that coaching was the point of intersection between his greatest joy and the world's need.

Why everyone should be coached

Exceptionally few people have the self-awareness, discipline, determination and know-how to effectively evaluate their life-experiences. Fewer still can then create and implement a plan for how they can grow to be the best versions of themselves.

Most never bring out the best of who they are. They rob themselves of the experience of realising their innate potential, and deny their communities the full measure of the contributions they would otherwise have been able to make.

A coach can be a catalytic agent to enable an individual to realise the potential within. Apart from being catalytic, coaching conversations can be transformational by opening new perspectives about themselves, others, and the world.
