Gareth McVicar について

As a passionate educator and Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach with expertise in leadership and talent development, and working with both youth and adult learners through a multi-generational lens, the core of my work centres around helping others realize their own potential.

Leading UCalgary's Strengths-Based Campus Program
Over the last decade, my work has included the privilege of collaboratively growing the University of Calgary's student leadership programs portfolio into a nationally recognized best-practice program. Since 2013, a major focus of my work has included leading the implementation and development of the university's Strengths-Based Campus Program, using Gallup's CliftonStrengths tool. In that time, through coaching students, training staff and faculty, and building Strengths and teamwork into curriculum, more than 12,000 members of the campus community have learned about their talents, and how to put their Strengths into action, both inside and outside the classroom. My education, training and background have also helped me develop a unique perspective on what it means to live a life and career where our strengths, values and passions are in full play.

Living Out My SPARK
Seven years ago I had the opportunity to hear a speech given by Craig Kielburger. In that speech Craig used the equation "Spark + Gift = Better World" and the electricity that concept elicited in me led in 2016 to starting my own business, SPARK Coaching & Consulting. In my life, what I do, the organizations I work for and become involved with are guided by my Strengths, Passion, Authenticity, Reflection and Knowing My Values. It is each of these that form my SPARK, which I define as the moments in which we begin to make sense of who we are, our passions and gifts, what matters to us most and in turn how to live out that SPARK.

My Promise as a Coach
As a Coach, my promise is to use an individualized approach tailored to the specific needs of the person or team I am working with. I am committed to helping my clients explore their stories, strengths and experiences, articulate their needs and set goals. In turn I help guide my clients to a place where they determine action items and how to reach their goals successfully.

My Commitment to Community
Giving back to the communities in which I live has always been important to me, and when not at the university or doing work with SPARK, my West Highland Terrier and therapy dog Angus and I have the pleasure of volunteering with the Pet Access League Society at the Alberta Children's Hospital and other locations in Calgary. With a strong background in and love for theatre, musicals and performance, I am also a classically trained Tenor that can be found performing on stages in Calgary, and most recently with StoryBook Theatre, where I currently serve as the Vice President on their Board of Directors.
