How Opportunity Takes Root: Understanding the Conditions for People and Places to Thrive
Most Americans believe they have the ability to shape their own path, but a significant share feel constrained by circumstances beyond their control. This sense of agency is closely tied to income, age and community conditions such as access to stable jobs and affordable housing.
At the same time, Americans’ outlook on their lives reflects a mix of current challenges and future optimism. While only about half are thriving today, many, especially younger adults, remain hopeful about what lies ahead. Still, gaps in economic opportunity and community support continue to shape how people experience their lives.
