Pairing and Expanding Your Strengths: Belief

Webcast Details

  • Gallup Theme Thursday Webcast Series
  • Season 2, Belief
  • Learn what Belief looks like when you use theme dynamics, and how it combines with and complements your other talent themes.

On this Theme Thursday Season 2 webcast, Jim Collison, Gallup's Director of Talent Sourcing, and Maika Leibbrandt, Gallup Advanced Learning and Development Consultant, discussed the theme of Belief.

People exceptionally talented in the Belief theme have core values that are unchanging. Belief provides purpose to their lives. Belief is an executing theme -- it drives people to do what they believe and to participate in things they hold up as important. Belief is like an out of this come the purpose for their lives. Belief is like a lighthouse. It is a beacon in the darkness for others to see a person's values. Maika explained, "Gallup doesn't give a set of values to Belief, but people with high Belief often can tell you their values."

The CliftonStrengths assessment gives a person insight into their most natural talents and behaviors. But, those talents stay constant even when they are used by a person in either a mature or raw form. For Belief, raw Belief looks like opposition, whereas mature Belief looks like advocacy. Raw Belief can be judgmental and shut down when someone does something against a person's values, while the mature version of Belief is grounded. Raw Belief is an anchor that is heavy and drags a person down, whereas mature Belief is an anchor that grounds a person in a storm. Often, people with mature Belief are excellent stewards of organizational values. Mature Belief brings stability and guidance and often, mature Belief focuses on altruism and service to others.
