Consistency: Learning to Love All 34 Talent Themes

On a recent Theme Thursday Season 1 live webcast, we discussed the Consistency theme with Audra Pace, a Gallup Outbound Engagement Specialist Manager.

Consistency is a keen awareness about the need to treat people the same by setting clear rules and applying them evenhandedly. Words that best represent the Consistency theme are: uniformity, rules, efficiency, balance and fairness. Someone with Consistency often acts as the conscience of a group or team. They are egalitarian, even-handed and selfless. People with Consistency focus on the group, not on individuals. They accomplish tasks in a fair and consistent manner. Consistency believe that the rules are the same for everyone, so individuals with high Consistency are great at giving credit where credit is due. Consistency believes, "It's not what we do once in a while that shapes our lives, it is what we do every day."

Audra has worked as an Engagement Manager at Gallup for over six years. She manages a team of 40-45 interviewers at one of Gallup's world famous interviewing centers. Also, Audra manages the center's employee retention and turnover.

Audra uses her Consistency theme to manage her team successfully. She views all of her team members as equals and tries to spend an equal amount of time with each of them on interview evaluations, recognition and discussing their goals. In this way, Consistency pushes Audra to have a good relationship with all of her team members because she wants all of them to feel recognized and special. In fact, Audra's favorite aspect of being a manager is providing fair and balanced recognition. She loves giving everyone an equal opportunity to shine.

Audra also employs her Consistency in her relationships with fellow managers at the center. Those managers know that if they give Audra a task -- she will complete it no matter what. Audra's partners explained that they always appreciate that she has a routine, and they know what to expect from her. Audra does not let her fellow managers down. Audra has a schedule and routine that she follows every day. She said, "While it may sound boring to some people, it's a great way for me to get a lot done."
