- Gallup Called to Coach Webcast Series
- Season 3, Episode 9
- Learn about a coach's journey to becoming a coach, and the lessons about strengths -- including the need for patience -- he has learned along the way.
On a recent Called to Coach: Australia Edition we spoke with Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach Donald Jessep.
Donald's drive to facilitate engagement within organizations came when he was a young boy working on his father's farm. He noticed that the other workers weren't very engaged, and he saw that it all started with their boss -- his father. Although he didn't know it at the time, this was Donald's call to coach.
Donald says strategic strengths partnerships are key to efficiently and effectively accomplishing goals. What he means by a strategic strengths partnership is working with someone who has a certain strength that might not be as high for you. This helps fill in the areas in which you may struggle, while your strengths do the same for your partner.
Helping others develop their strengths doesn't happen overnight. Discovering your top talents is nearly instantaneous after completing the CliftonStrengths assessment. But growing those talents into strengths takes a lot of deliberate development. Each person is different, and for some the road to developing strengths can be a long haul. Donald says to be patient and to not try to rush the results.
