- Gallup Called to Coach Webcast Series
- Season 2, Episode 28
- Learn the importance of proactively applying your strengths in your job and team contexts, as well as away from work.
On a recent Called to Coach: Southeast Asia Edition we spoke with Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach Roy Lim. Roy is an expert at helping individuals, managers and teams grow personally and professionally.
Roy's journey into strengths-based development began when he stumbled upon a strengths coach's website. Before he knew it, he had spent five days in a Gallup strengths course learning how to be a successful strengths coach. He knew he wanted to find a new means of self-development, and anchoring it to strengths proved to be the perfect fit.
When helping individuals grow within teams and organizations, Roy and his colleagues run a three-day workshop in which they implement team-building exercises. After these activities, Roy facilitates conversations with the teams, asking them about some of the emotions they felt during the activities, which strengths they used and how they used them. This enables individuals to name their strengths, and then claim them in a practical environment.
Roy says that when coaching for a workgroup or organization, it's important to encourage participants to think about how to proactively apply their strengths away from work. Strengths aren't solely for professional application; they can be effectively applied to any situation in life.
