Pairing and Expanding Your Strengths: Significance

Webcast Details

  • Gallup Theme Thursday Webcast Series
  • Season 2, Significance
  • Learn what Significance looks like when you use theme dynamics, and how it combines with and complements your other talent themes.

On this Theme Thursday Season 2 webcast, Jim Collison, Gallup's Director of Talent Sourcing, and Maika Leibbrandt, Gallup Advanced Learning and Development Consultant, discussed the theme of Significance.

People exceptionally talented in the Significance theme want to be very important in others' eyes. They are independent and want to be recognized. Significance is not a common theme; thus it is often misunderstood. At one point, the Significance theme was called desire, desire to have a positive effect on people. The genius of people with strong Significance begins and ends with the difference that they are determined to make. They want the world to be a better place because they are in it.

Raw Significance is focused on independent impact. Mature Significance asks, what are "we" doing and how can I bring people along with me to feel the important mission or goal. Raw is intolerant: "I hate busy work." Mature is insightful: "I notice we're being ineffective, so I'm going to work on what has more potential." There is ego in Significance: a boldness, courage and awareness in how you're being seen. It's a comfort in the spotlight. Raw Significance wants any spotlight. Mature Significance has comfort in the right spotlight, finding the places where they are best and being sharp there, instead of wanting the spotlight in every situation.
