How Complementary Strengths Partnerships Help Youth, Adults

Webcast Details

  • Gallup Called to Coach Webcast Series
  • Season 3, Episode 12
  • Learn how a coach uses her knowledge of CliftonStrengths to benefit youth in a summer camp and to help clients leverage complementary partnerships.

On a recent episode of Called to Coach, we spoke with Gallup-Certified Strengths Coach Jennifer Selke.

Jennifer has been studying strengths since her first job as a manager when she oversaw a youth center for the U.S. Air Force in England. Additionally, she has always had an interest in helping adults adapt in the workplace, from discovering and developing their strengths to becoming consciously aware of their weaknesses.

A graduate of Gallup's Accelerated Strengths Coaching course, Jennifer applies her strengths coaching knowledge to the summer camp she runs. Each summer, at the University of California at Berkeley, she administers the CliftonStrengths assessment to attendees in grades 9 and up. The camp attendees then receive individualized coaching to help them develop their strengths throughout the summer.

When collaborating with others, Jennifer said it's important to find complementary partnerships. Partnering with someone who has a similar set of talents may seem like a more productive approach. But when you collaborate with someone whose talents are different from yours, it creates a symbiotic partnership in which each individual's talents help fill in the other's deficiencies.

To learn more about Jennifer and how she uses strengths to help people live happier, more productive lives, watch the full video or listen to the audio above.

Jennifer Selke's Top 5 CliftonStrengths are Learner, Maximizer, Relator, Self-Assurance and Individualization.
