- Gallup Theme Thursday Webcast Series
- Season 1, Self-Assurance
- Learn how themes form the core of CliftonStrengths and how to understand and appreciate your own -- and others' -- strengths, as we focus on Self-Assurance.
On a recent episode of Theme Thursday Season 1, we spoke about the Self-Assurance theme with Gallup Learning & Development Advanced Consultant Rod Karr. Theme Thursday is a Gallup Webcast series that dives deep into the CliftonStrengths themes, one at a time.
People with strong Self-Assurance talents can lead the way. Because they deeply trust their own instincts, they can forge ahead confidently, even on risky paths. They can instill confidence in others and show initiative in the midst of turbulence and uncertainty.
Curt describes Self-Assurance as "an internal confidence to try, even though external uncertainty exists." People with Self-Assurance have a unique ability to trust their own instincts. They often "go with their gut," trusting their intuition with the confidence to know what is right.
Rod, who has Self-Assurance in his Top 5, talks about how the theme fits into his own life. He says that Self-Assurance gives him the confidence to try things with a willingness to take risks. Even when he doesn't feel like he is prepared, he is certain he can figure it out.
When Rod first found out his strengths, he was very leery about Self-Assurance in his Top 5. He initially thought it had "arrogant" connotations. After learning more about the theme, he realized that it pointed to his inner confidence, not to outward cockiness.
Of the more than 10 million people who have taken the CliftonStrengths assessment, only 6% have Self-Assurance in their Top 5. The theme most likely to be paired with Self-Assurance is Strategic. The themes least likely to be paired with Self-Assurance are Developer and Empathy, which tend to be more external in nature.
