These 40 workplaces won the 2019 Gallup Great Workplace Award because they went after a bigger purpose and a stronger culture than most businesses ever imagine, and we vetted them to be sure.
Why are great workplaces so important? We've seen the numbers on how a great workplace can improve business outcomes. But they also contribute to a larger purpose.
Great workplaces provide people with the No. 1 thing they say they need to live their best life -- a good job.
The organizations that win the Gallup Great Workplace Award don't just create good jobs, though. They create great jobs.
Great jobs don't happen when organizations seek Band-Aid solutions to get employees to mark "yes" or "5" on a survey -- they don't happen by giving employees a few extra outdated benefits and calling it good.
Our winners are different because they look for what people really want from their careers and their lives -- belonging, learning and growth, recognition, a great manager, and the opportunity to do what they do best every day -- and then they find a way to give their employees just that.
And in return, they get business results they haven't seen before.
These 40 workplaces are on our top list because they wanted, and delivered, lasting change for their businesses and their people. The leaders of these organizations went after a bigger purpose and a stronger culture than most businesses ever imagine, and we vetted them to be sure.

Who wouldn't want to work hard for an organization like that?

What makes the Gallup Great Workplace Award criteria more rigorous than others?
1. Winners invite all employees to let their voices be heard.
We require more than a small sample of responses. Many workplace awards only require a small sample of survey participants, but ours asks everyone's opinion.
2. Winners must achieve a qualifying score that places them in the upper echelon of organizations.
Each company's employee engagement is measured using Gallup's Q12 survey -- a survey that asks employees questions that tie to their performance, their commitment to their organization and specific business metrics.
The results are compared with Gallup's extensive database including 35 million respondents and more than 3 million workgroups from 195 countries -- only companies in the top tier qualify.
3. Winners must provide detailed evidence of their culture and performance that passes the toughest critics.
A panel of Gallup workplace scientists and experts evaluates applicants and assesses them against criteria established by the most exhaustive workplace study ever conducted. Applicants have to measure up to some of the most productive and profitable organizations in the world.
Organizations submit information about their strategy and leadership, performance and accountability, communication and knowledge management, and development and ongoing learning.
